Computer controlled Cryogenic Processing Equipment

Cryogenic Processing saves you money with longer lasting equipment, reduced maintenance, reduced downtime and enhanced performance. (It may also take a few strokes off your game.)

Cryogenic Processing . . .

  • Decreases abrasive wear
  • Decreases erosive wear
  • Decreases corrosive wear
  • Reduces distortion
  • Relieves stress
  • Improves machinability
  • Reduces sharpening time
  • Reduces material lost during sharpening or grinding
  • More sharpenings/grindings before parts are replaced
  • Withstands higher temperatures
  • Allows tighter machining tolerances in metal and plastic parts
  • Yields better performance with sports equipment
  • Smoother action and cleaner sounds from musical instruments
  • Environmentally clean process
  • Will not damage parts
  • Treats entire part, not just the surface

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Question: What exactly is cryogenic processing?
Answer: Cryogenic processing is the process where metal and plastic parts are subjected to deep cryogenic freezing and selective heat tempering cycles.

Question: Does that make the parts brittle?
Answer: This is a slow (several day) process that is controlled by a sophisticated process controller. Parts come out less brittle and, therefore, more ductile. The process is so gentle that we can treat light bulbs!

Question: Will parts get wet?
Answer: No. Your parts will be exposed only to cold, dry nitrogen gas and hot air.

Question: Will cryogenic processing work on everything?
Answer: It is less effective on some cast iron or natural materials like wood.

Question: How does cryogenic processing improve the life of my parts?
Answer: In metal parts, it converts the softer austenite metal into harder martensite metal. It evenly disperses the carbon molecules and creates smaller carbide molecules that are spaced between larger ones. In plastics like PTFE and nylon, it improves the structure of the material.

Question: What does that mean?
Answer: Parts will wear more evenly due to the absence of hard and soft areas. Therefore, they will last longer, up to 10 times longer! Items are thermally stabilized to hold tighter tolerances during machining. Parts are more corrosion resistant due to smoother surfaces. Items are more ductile because of a more uniform structure.

Question: What kind of parts will cryogenic processing work on?
Answer: Metal working tooling like drills, end mills, shapers, grinders, dies, taps and broaches to name a few.

Paper and corrugated tooling knives, slitters, trimmers, and perforating wheels.

Plastic and rubber tooling like slitters, trimmers, cutters, molds and knives.

Industrial applications like gears, bearings, pump parts, chain and more.

Welding parts like electrodes and spot weld tips. Less amperage, too!

Question: What other things does cryogenic processing improve?
Answer: Golf balls that travel up to 20 yards farther and last up to 3 times longer before cutting; musical instruments that move smoother and sound cleaner; racing engines and parts; chain saw blades; sewing machine needles; dental tools; barber tools; medical equipment; razors; aluminum softball bats; tennis rackets; golf clubs and even panty hose!

Question: Will cryogenic processing reduce the effects of corrosion on parts?
Answer: Yes, corrosion tests have yielded a 40% improvement in tool steel and even a 4-6% improvement in stainless steel.
